How to keep a dream journal in three minutes
A useful dream-journal entry does not need to retell every detail. Keep what you genuinely remember, separate observation from interpretation, and leave room for uncertainty. This template takes about three minutes and works even if you do not want an interpretation.
A five-line template for waking
1) Date and waking time. 2) The opening scene or clearest image. 3) What happened next and how it ended. 4) One word for the feeling in the dream and one after waking. 5) What repeated or changed from an earlier dream. If you remember one image only, record that one image.
Write the observation before the interpretation. “I stood before a locked door and felt impatient” is an observation; “the door predicts that I will fail” is an unverified interpretation.
Add context without filling the gaps
Note one real waking-life concern if you yourself consider it relevant. For a person appearing in the dream, record only the relationship and a trait you genuinely know; do not use the dream to infer what they think or will do.
Mark a gap as “not remembered” instead of completing the story. After three to five entries, compare repeating scenes, feelings, and responses. A real series of notes is more useful than forcing one fixed meaning onto a single symbol.
One reflection question and a stopping boundary
End with one small question: “Which detail touches a real feeling or situation for me today?” You can keep the journal private, compare it with an earlier dream, or use the note in Inti Intelligence for a structured interpretation. Any interpretation remains a suggestion, not an instruction.
If recurring nightmares persistently disrupt sleep, cause daytime fear, or reopen painful memories, seek appropriate professional support. A journal and Inti Intelligence do not diagnose, treat, or predict the future.
Frequently asked questions
Should I journal if I cannot remember the whole dream?
Yes. Record one scene, feeling, or line you remember and leave the rest blank. You do not need to invent details to create a complete story.
Do I need to interpret the dream immediately?
No. Record first to preserve the observation; you may revisit it later or never interpret it. If you use a tool, keep the right to revise or discard any reading that does not fit your real life.
